Smart Move

Improving urban mobility with Design Sprint

Project developed in one week with the metodhology Design Sprint. The final project’s prompt was to design a service that meets the new habits of the population in urban mobility. Following the path of the Spanish automobile manufacturer company SEAT.

We ended-up with SMART MOVE, a community of micromobility vechicles that provides customization for each different user.

_____________MONDAYUNDERSTANDING

We used the help of the Sprint questions to understand the problem and prioritizing it. Then, the User Journey helped us understand deeper the actual needs of urban mobility, defining two hypothetic users: Millenial student and Adult worker. Thanks to the HMW session we transformed users’ pain points into opportunities where to focus to understand what should be the best solution.

_____________TUESDAYSKETCHING COMPETING SOLUTIONS

Picturing the process as a big funnel, we started the day producing ideas and sketching them out down till the Solution sketch. When sharing our ideas, we did a Lightning demo that gave us a fast brainstorming about urban mobility solutions and some features we could develop later. This step lets us start focusing on solutions. Then, Each member of the group developed a more detailed Sketch solution focusing on the main points of the previous research.

_____________WEDNESDAYDECIDE ON THE BEST

During the third day, we start deciding which Sketch solution or idea is more useful. Not just thinking about the whole idea but also highlighting some features we would like to focus on. Dotmocracy helped us during this process.

We thought that the company SEAT could improve the urban mobility by developing an app with all the community of micromobility vehicles they have, and providing customization for each different user. That service would help not only to reduce the traffic in the center of the city and the pollution accumulated, but also to make it easier for the user to move from point A to B as customized as she/he wants. Then, We decided to divide the routes into two different types: Fast route and Customised route.

_____________THURSDAYMAKE IT REAL

SMART MOVE consists of a fleet of 5 different types of electric and renting vehicles that are scattered throughout the city, in addition to having central points where a certain amount of vehicles are placed. You can activate the vehicle with the app, from which you can choose the destination and the journey time is calculated. Then you can choose the type of vehicle, display it and, book it. The combination of these two services (booking a vehicle and calculating a route) permits making easier for the user to move, reduce the stress caused by traffic.

_____________FRIDAYTEST THE PROTOTYPE

We had the opportunity to do Guerrilla Test with five different users. This test allowed us to understand deeply how SmartMove can be improved, how users felt while searching a route and which mistakes we did not realize. We received great feedback from the users but also discovered some usability improvements. Then, we developed a Map of the User Test with positive points and points to check out.
